I always thought of “discipline” as something that someone else tells you to do and therefore you’d have to follow it without question. It’s crazy how media portrays it like that. That hits the nail on the head. I found from personal experience that having a routine to stick to definitely helps.
If I don’t plan my day, I get nothing important done and have nothing to show. It all starts by creating habits you can stick to. I am sure you agree.
But one also has to be careful of being too OCD as you also need to schedule time for recreation and relaxation, or you end up being burnt out.

Discipline adds structure to one’s life and gives one direction for where you are going and what you want to achieve. Kids want to have discipline, which sets boundaries and helps them focus. But that is with parents and others in their lives disciplining them.
Being self-disciplined means the individual has to set boundaries. Having goals makes it easier to be self-disciplined and to stay focused. I have always been quite self-disciplined and harsh on myself, and I call it my overdeveloped sense of duty. But it does mean that I get more done.
It is important to guard against distractions, but staying motivated is easier.
